With the addition of a rug pad, that friction and wear and tear is slowed down, thus extending the life of your rug. Obviously this is like carpet rug pads. Of course, if the rug pad is left out, or a low quality option is used, you are going to notice this as well; just not in the same way. This may seem like a silly question, but if you have just spent a load of money on a very expensive hand-knotted Oriental Rug, the last thing you want to do is drop a few hundred more on a rug pad that no-one will ever see. However, it may return the next time the carpet gets wet.

Rug pads provide extra cushioning. Even if you have a hand knotted rug with a high number of knots per square inch and have difficultly seeing the holes, they are there. But has little, or nothing, to do with rug pads usually. To avoid this, make sure that the proper rug pad is used. Many of these products are designed to “neutralize” odors rather than cover them up.

Rug pads protect the carpet underneath. A rug pad helps your rug “stick” to the floor, keeping it in place, and making it safer for everyone. This is similar to Oriental rug pads frequently. You do not want to find yourself tripping over your rug time and time again, do you? Does your house smell like a locker room or dirty sweat socks? Whether your whole house has smelly carpet or just a room or two, the odor can be overwhelming.

This is an extra bonus for those of us that are especially sensitive to these types of bacteria and it’s nice to know that the rug pads in our home prevent bacteria even if we aren’t especially sensitive. Over time, friction can rub through the finish of your floor. As you can imagine, when you are walking on a rug with a pad underneath it will be much more comfortable. The first thing you need to look at when choosing carpet pad is the density and thickness.

Rug pads reduce the number of falls and slips. You don’t want the rug pad to show, so it should be cut to be at least 1/2″ smaller all the way around. You want to make sure that you get a rug pad that is of high quality, and of course, one that is known to get the job done. Rug pads come in all shapes and sizes and most can be sized with a pair of household scissors.
